At nine February the 13th edition of the International Convention and Fair on ICT started in Havana (Cuba), giving place to a whole week of conferences, workshops and presentations, with the theme ¨The technologies of Information and Communications as a support for development and technological sovereignty of the people.

 

The Andalusian Centre of Innovation and Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC) was present at this event, stimulating the interchange of researchers, technicians, businesses and governmental organizations at international level. The Technological Centre took also advantage of the occasion to analyze the explosive progress in ICT, as well as new applications in the present society in different areas.

 

Together with more than 1500 participants that visited this meeting, the representatives of CITIC participated in 14 scientific-technical congresses, dealing with 4 key elements of the world of informatics and telecommunications: Infrastructure, Contents, Security and Regulatory Framework. All these events took place simultaneously in the 18 assembly halls of the Conventions Centre of Havana and in different halls of the Palco Hotel.

 

The commercial fair was held at the PABEXPO venue, where negotiation rounds where held and exhibition stands where available. This space was organized in 6 different thematic areas: informatics solutions, software, telecommunications, electronics, automatics and medical equipments. At the closing day, CITIC assisted the celebration of the Design and Quality Awards, an acknowledgement for the best products and exhibition stands presented during the event.

 

More than hundred entities of almost fifty countries met at this event, which was first organized in 1988. The present edition, organized by different representative entities of the Ministry of Informatics and Communications, confirmed the consolidation of the event as an international reference for the area of ICT.

CITIC attends the event

The Andalusian Centre of Innovation and Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC) assisted the event and promoted the name of CITIC and the region of Andalusia in the American continent.

 

Representatives of the ICT Technological Centre have spread their knowledge between the participants of this encounter, in relation to themes such as advanced interactive services for the digital television. In this framework, the Technical Manager, José Ramón Salinas, has studied the advantages en disadvantages of the international standards of DTT in depth with other experts, as well as the system for the broadcasting of interactive DTT. The manager of the Technology Transfer Office, Desirée Bellido, presented in a separate presentation the model of the Technological Centre, the services and activities, and the connections and synergies between Science – Technology – Company and Society, using as a model this Centre.

In relation to CITIC

The Andalusian Centre of Innovation and Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC), created in March 2002, is a non-profit private foundation situated in the Technological Park of Andalucía (PTA). Is represents 38 leading companies, active in the area of ICT, and has the objective to connect the knowledge of the University to the necessities of the societies and companies. It transfers the developed technology and promotes the implementation of these technologies, through the Technology Transfer Office (OTRI nº 205).

 

At the present, CITIC is, among others, a member of the Network of Technological Research Centers of the Ministry of Education and Science and of the Andalusian Technology Network (RETA).

 

Although CITIC started working at the regional level, it is expanding its activities further to the national and international level, and at the present it participates in various European projects.
